Community Service Project

SWPONL is thrilled to announce a partnership with Street Med at Pitt at this year's conference. The Street Med at Pitt team serves to provide improved access to healthcare for people experiencing homelessness and equip students to better serve them. By meeting people where they are and providing quality, consistent, needs-driven care, the organization strives to provide patients with a pathway to well-being. The mission of its interdisciplinary team is to provide comprehensive care for persons experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness by:

  • providing direct care to patients through regular street rounds, student-led foot clinic, and more.
  • educating students to better serve the needs of this community through didactic instruction and hands-on experiences.
  • fostering sustainable projects, including research, advocacy, and volunteering opportunities, that further the values of our organization.

We encourage you to participate in a collection of needed items for persons experiencing homelessness and bring them to the conference. Collections will take place on both Thursday and Friday.

Street Med at Pitt is seeking donations of these new or gently used items:

  • socks
  • first aid kits
  • flashlights
  • sunscreen
  • sunglasses
  • backpacks
  • new and unopened personal care items, including tampons/menstrual discs
  • additional items are listed on Amazon.com.

Monetary contributions in any amount are also greatly appreciated: https://giveto.pitt.edu/streetmedicinepitt
